What to expect

The goal is to create a supportive environment as you heal and recover from your injury, with personalised one-on-one assistance at every stage.

Consultation

This session is intended for your initial appointment and can last up-to one hour depending on the issue. During this time, I will discuss your injury in detail as well as your overall health and history. Following that, I will examine the affected area by touch, feel and movement.

After the session it will be followed up by how I can help.

Follow up session

These sessions last 30 minutes and take place after your initial consultation. They are designed to support your ongoing recovery. During these sessions, we may utilise electrotherapy as part  of your rehabilitation and evaluate your progress.

Have question, check out the FAQ page.

What is Electrotherapy?

Electrotherapy is a medical treatment that uses electrical energy to stimulate nerves and muscles, and promotes healing and aids injury recovery. It can be used to relieve pain, reduce swelling, improve circulation, and strengthen muscles.

Electrotherapy can block pain signals, stimulate the release of endorphins (natural pain relievers), and reduce nerve sensitivity.

Some forms of electrotherapy can stimulate cells to produce collagen, which is essential for tissue repair. This can be really beneficial for wound healing, for example recovering from surgery.

Electrical currents can used in the rehabilitation progress to stimulate muscle contractions, helping to strengthen and prevent muscle atrophy.

The types I use are:

Low Level Laser Therapy

This non-invasive treatment uses a specialised applicator placed gently on the skin to deliver light energy into the body’s tissue cells. The light stimulates natural cellular processes, promoting healing and recovery.

Low-Level Laser Therapy offers a range of benefits, including pain relief, enhanced tissue repair, and accelerated cell growth — all of which support scar tissue healing and wound repair. It can also help reduce inflammation and improve circulation, encouraging faster recovery and overall well-being.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Gel is applied to the skin to allow smooth movement of the treatment head, which is continuously moved over the targeted area. The device generates sound waves that create gentle energy within the tissues, stimulating healing and repair. During treatment, a small amount of warmth may be felt both during and after the session.

Therapeutic ultrasound can be used as an alternative to massage, helping to soften and break down scar tissue. It also increases the flexibility of soft tissues such as tendons and ligaments, enhancing mobility during rehabilitation. Additionally, this treatment encourages collagen production and supports effective tissue repair, promoting smoother, stronger healing outcomes.

Shortwave Therapy

This treatment uses a drum head applicator placed over the targeted area and can be applied through clothing, casts, or bandages. It delivers deep, soothing warmth that penetrates muscles and joints, promoting relaxation and increased blood circulation. The therapy helps reduce muscle spasms, relieve nerve irritation, and ease joint stiffness. It is particularly beneficial for managing chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis and lower back pain, as well as supporting wound healing and tissue repair following surgery or injury.

Interferential Therapy

Interferential therapy uses electrical currents delivered through two electrodes placed on the skin. This technique is commonly applied for pain relief, helping to reduce discomfort and improve mobility in joints or limbs. Additionally, interferential therapy can be used to stimulate muscle activity. In cases where muscle atrophy has developed following an injury, the electrical stimulation helps contract and strengthen the affected muscles. The therapy also promotes increased blood flow and the release of endorphins, supporting overall recovery and pain management.

Electrotherapy is used to aid healing and always used as part of a treatment plan. It will be discussed as part of your treatment and I am happy to answer any question. Contraindication apply.
